Die Präsentation

The show focuses, in particular, on artistic dialogue between the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in 2025, and the German painter Gerhard Richter. The title ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ is a reference to Arvo Pärt‘s work of the same name, whose compositional structure is reflected in the dramaturgy of the exhibition: Arvo Pärt‘s music and Gerhard Richter‘s painting provide insights into the ties between the two countries and illustrate the cultural interaction, affinities and ruptures between Estonia and Germany.

Die Prägung

In addition to historical perspectives, the exhibition also deals with topics such as nationality, religion, the environment, and feminism. The items on display highlight the extent to which Estonian and German artists from different eras have inspired and influenced each other. Many works from Estonia are being shown in Germany for the first time.
